Quite literally the ABC’s of Pilates are:-
A = ALIGNMENT
B = BREATHING
C = CENTRING
Alignment: Starting with and maintaining a neutral spine and pelvis as your exercise is key to ensuring the success of your workout
Breathing: Pilates uses lateral breathing, expanding the ribcage as you breathe in and contracting the ribcage as you breathe out
Centering: This involves engaging the diaphragm, the transverse abdominals (inner muscles that wrap around your torso like a corset) and the pelvic floor muscles. Collectively, they form the “core” muscles
Once you’ve understood the ABC’s and start using it for every single exercise you do, you’ll quickly start to see the difference it your body, both within and outside of class.
